PROJECT OVERVIEW
In May 2025, the City of Chico, Public Works Department’s contractor began installing a trunkline sewer main. The new trunkline main is along Midway, Chico-Durham Bike Path and Entler Avenue, south of City limits. This important project is a critical infrastructure improvement to our wastewater collection system.
Work includes trenching, drilling and paving. Some noise impacts can be expected.
Please use alternate travel routes, as possible, to avoid construction delays.
Construction is anticipated to take place from May 2025 to into Winter 2025.
Typical construction hours: 7 a.m.– 5 p.m., Monday–Friday, with some Saturday and night work.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Properties will not be moved from septic to the trunk line. There are no changes to properties’ current connections.
You will always have access to your property during construction.
Traffic controls will be in place near construction areas, anticipate traffic delays and use alternative routes.
WHAT IS A TRUNKLINE?
A trunkline is a large diameter pipe that transports wastewater from a sewer main line. Sewer main lines connect to private connections. Trunklines do not connect to private sewer lines. At this time, the City of Chico does not have plans to install a sewer main in this project area.
Properties will not transition from septic to sewer as part of this project.
PROJECT BACKGROUND
The P-18 Trunkline Sewer Project was identified in the 2013 City of Chico Sanitary Sewer Master Plan Update, which identified capacity deficiencies in the sanitary sewer system and included plans to incorporate additional infrastructure where needed. This project is an important step toward improving sanitary sewer capacity.
The trunkline will service the majority of the Honey Run/Doe Mill Special Planning Area, South Entler Special Planning Area, and commercial and industrial uses in the area, as identified in the Chico 2030 General Plan.
This project is funded with U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Community Project Funding, American Rescue Plan Act Funding and local funds.
